Upgrading the Santa Fe National Forest plan to protect whites pines is tragically a “low priority” according to this February 14 article in the Santa Fe New Mexican. The top priority mandated by the Trump administration is logging in roadless areas and on steep slopes where the last big trees remain. New Mexico pioneering conservationist Aldo Leopold’s love of white pines should be the guiding light for forest managers, not the decrees of Trump’s timber bullies. Tell Supervisor Shaun Sanchez of the Santa Fe National Forest to preserve white pines by amending the forest plan to be consistent with the plans of other national forests in the Southwest.
